Well Done Dancers

Its been a very busy couple of weeks for our pupils. On the 20th November we took our team to compete at the Wythenshawe Forum Manchester and then on the 27th November most of our pupils took their medal tests.

I have now posted some photos onto the schools Instagram page, click here to see. It was great to see so many of you getting involved and enjoying your dancing. On medal test day we also enjoyed some fantastic home baked cakes. Well done to all those who helped out raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Prize Giving July 2015

Kirkham Community Centre was packed with proud parents and friends as pupils of the dance school received their awards for dance. During the event guests were treated to various demonstrations performed by pupils in the styles of Ballroom, Latin American and Street Dance. Awards were handed out by the guest of honour Kirkham Town Mayor Councillor Paul Hodgson who was particularly impressed with the waltzing of the very young children. The dance school has developed a strong friendly community over the past 20 years teaching dance in Kirkham and this was obvious on the evening with all ages and abilities receiving awards, joining in and having fun. Kirkham community centre , the home of the dance school is a modern property located to the heart of Kirkham town centre comprising two large rooms the larger hall having a purpose built sprung timber dance floor and outside there are plenty of free parking spaces.

Circus Skills Party 20th June 2015

While mums, dads, grandparents, adult pupils and friends of the school enjoyed tea, coffee and a variety of yummy home baked cakes the children of our dance community enjoyed a circus skills workshop run by Blackpool Circus School. It was fantastic fun for everyone! Thank you Tonya and your team for helping make our day very special teaching us all lots of fun circus skills and a massive thank you to the parents who baked cakes. The dance school really appreciates all the effort you put in to make these occasions extra special.

This event follows on from our party at Blackpool tower. Find out more here. If you want to learn to dance, find out more about our school and the dance classes we offer at www.kirkhamdance.com. The site is packed full of useful information and news.

Simple exercises with quick results

Many dancers struggle to maintain a good top line and if you don’t get your topline right then your good footwork often goes unnoticed. So we are going to try a range of exercises to improve topline which will include the use of the topline dance frame. (During the Blackpool Dance Festival we acquired a medium (for adults) and a small sized frame (for children) from the DSI stand.) The topline dance frame is an aid to preventing unnecessary movement in the sides of the body, shoulders and arms, by giving instant physical feedback to the wearer. By learning to stop these unnecessary movements when the frame is felt as resistance, the top body becomes stable and provides better connection and balance for each partner.
