Adult Classes

Why dance?

Dancing is brilliant for both your physical and mental health. As an aerobic, weight-bearing form of exercise, it can help you to improve your posture, flexibility, balance, and general fitness levels. As an uplifting, fun, social activity, it can also support improved wellbeing.

What adult dance classes do we offer?

We offer three different types of adult classes at Kirkham Dance:

Ballroom, Latin American, and Popular Sequence

Line Dance

Bounce DanceFit

There are also a limited number of private lessons available for pupils of the dance school. They focus on helping students improve their technique and confidence in the choreographed routines we follow in the Ballroom, Latin American, and Popular Sequence class.

Every 2 months or so we run an adult social dance, with supper! These dances are often themed, and are a great opportunity to try out the dances we learn together in class in a fun, social setting. You can find out more details, including the dates of our upcoming social dances, on the Events page.

Ballroom, Latin American, and Popular Sequence

In this class, we cover a broad range of popular dances, including but not limited to:

Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Tango, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba, Jive, Paso Doble, Rock ‘n Roll, Salsa, and Popular Sequence.

Elisabeth choreographs a routine for each type of dance, which pupils learn over the course of several weeks. This allows us to enjoy social dances together, and is also excellent for pupils who wish to dance in a social setting outside of the dance school; on cruises, or in the immortal Tower Ballroom in Blackpool.

We offer these classes for 3 different ability levels:

Near Beginners

A class for people who have never danced before, or who have danced a long time ago and would like to start again with the fundamentals.

Improvers

A class for people with some recent dance experience; the steps are more complex than the “Near Beginners” class, and taught at a slightly more demanding pace.

Intermediate

A class for people who are confident dancers, and looking to learn more advanced steps than either of the other two classes.

In every case, your dance journey starts by getting in touch with Elisabeth. She will carry out an initial assessment over email or phone, and advise on which class would be most suitable for you to join. You can find our contact form here. Line Dance

Line dancing is choreographed dancing in which a group of people all dance the same repeating sequence of steps, whilst arranged in rows (or “lines”). Unlike the other types of dance we teach, line dancers are not in physical contact with each other.

Our line dance classes are suitable for all abilities, and offer a gentle form of exercise in a relaxed, social setting.

Anyone who would like to come along to any of our classes should first get in touch via our Contact page. You can also click here to see our class timetable and here for our FAQs.
